The pay-per-view card opened with an enormous upset: Edwin De Los Santos, a Dominican lightweight filling in as a late replacement opponent, battered previously unbeaten Mexican prospect Jose Valenzuela for a third-round stoppage victory. “But I felt good, and I thought I was landing the more powerful shots. “Obviously it had been over four years, so I was a little off with my timing, and a little sluggish,” Mares said. Mares tired in the second half, but won 96-94 on one judge’s card. He recovered from surgery on a detached retina shortly before the start of the coronavirus pandemic, and his ring absence stretched on while he landed a commentary job with Showtime.īut Mares eventually decided he had to return, and he looked quite sharp early against Flores (25-4-1) with a series of big right hands that rocked his opponent. Mares (31-3-2) hadn’t fought since his second loss to Leo Santa Cruz in June 2018. “The ability that I have for counterpunching instead of waiting for him to load up, that was a blessing.”Įarlier, Cruz (24-2-1, 17 KOs) made his case for a rematch with Gervonta “Tank” Davis with his two-round demolition of Ramirez, first knocking him down face-first with a left hook to the jaw before finishing him with a combination in the corner.ĭavis, who narrowly beat Cruz by decision last December, smiled as he watched the bout from ringside amid chants of: “We want Tank!” from Cruz’s fans. But Ruiz connected again late in the seventh, staggering Ortiz before sending him to the canvas with a right to the top of the head. Neither fighter threw much or risked much in the next four rounds, and the crowd that loudly backed Ruiz grumbled its displeasure. Ortiz wobbled to his feet and soon slipped back down while trying to clinch with Ruiz, but he made it to the bell. I want to be a champion again.”Īfter entering the ring in a blue-and-gold robe and trunks featuring the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams’ colors and helmet horns, Ruiz abruptly floored Ortiz early in the second round with a short right hand. “I want to fight at least three or four times a year. “I do not want to be waiting,” Ruiz said. Ruiz had fought just once since, but he rededicated himself to training with hopes of getting another shot at the belts. Ruiz pulled off one of the bigger upsets in recent heavyweight history when he took Anthony Joshua’s three championship belts in 2019, only to lose them back to his British opponent six months later. The Associated Press also had Ruiz 114-111, with the knockdowns making the difference. “I thought I did a beautiful job handling his pressure and also coming forward.” “I worked so hard for this fight, because I knew he’s a warrior and he hits hard,” Ruiz said. The Southern California native knocked down the 43-year-old Ortiz twice in the second round and again in the seventh, but his Cuban opponent punched more accurately during long stretches of relative inactivity for both fighters. In the main event, Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs) had all of the big moments while grinding out a decision over Ortiz (33-3), a two-time world title challenger.

8/13/2023 0 Comments Auditory discrimination exampleCooperative Playīetween four and six years of age, we finally start to get to cooperative play. This is where social interaction starts to appear, about three to four years of age. Now we start to see children showing more interest in other children rather than the toys. That is at two-and-a-half to three years of age. The focus is still on the toys themselves rather than social interaction. If the other children are playing with blocks and stacking them, they may take blocks and stack them up, but they are still not actively engaging with the other children. Parallel play is where they watch other children and mimic the children’s play. This happens at two to two-and-a-half years of age. In this type of play the child starts to take an interest in other children and with what they are playing, but they do not join in. They may give you eye contact, but when they are playing with the toy, they are not trying to get you to come play with the toy with them. This occurs in young children under 12 months up to about two years. The play is about the toy and the play itself. Next is solitary play where the child is engrossed in playing, but does not notice other children. The first stage is unoccupied play where the child is relatively stationary and doing random movements. Types/Stages of Playĭefining the stages of play goes back to Mildred Parton in 1933, who looked at children between the ages of two and five years she described six different types of play. We want to make it fun and motivating for them. It does not mean anything yet, and t can be scary. If they are profoundly deaf and now have a cochlear implant, sound is new to them. When we are working with children and trying to develop listening or auditory skills, it is hard work. It also contributes to physical, social, emotional, cognitive, intellectual, and communication development. Why do we choose play? Play is the work of children. Purposeful play helps to set up a lesson play and give some ideas for parents to implement at home. When we are coaching parents or new clinicians, we need to write out some scripts that we would say to help facilitate that goal. We need to know at what level of skill they are on the hierarchy, and we have to choose some appropriate goals. Then I will talk about these levels and goals with purposeful play activities. We also need to know appropriate goals at each level that will help facilitate acquisition of that skill. The two key things we need to know when we are developing listening skills are auditory strategies that we can use to facilitate the listening hierarchy and the current level of a child’s skill and where we want them to go to. One of the first things we need to know when we are working with children is how to play, so we should know play milestones that are appropriate for young children. Today, Participants will be able to list play milestones for children ages birth to six years, describe auditory strategies to use when facilitating listening and spoken language development, list an auditory hierarchy along with goals at each level, and develop purposeful play activities that specifically target listening goals. That became an issue with the first round of stimulus checks, especially since many of these people were in deepest need of the first round’s $1,200 payments - and it wasn’t an insignificant number. In that case, there’s no reason to worry - the IRS will use your 2019 tax return to determine how much you should receive.īut this becomes trickier for people who aren’t required to file tax returns, such as those with no or very little earnings, which can be the case for some people on Social Security. Many people probably haven’t filed their 2020 tax returns yet, given that the deadline for getting in your tax forms is April 15. You haven’t filed your 2019 or 2020 tax returns Here’s what could hold up some people from receiving their money, or receiving the incorrect amount. It added it is making all funds fully available by using its balance sheet to credit the funds, rather than waiting for the funds’ settlement date through the government.Įven while some payments landed just one day after the bill was signed, the IRS has until the end of 2021 to distribute the checks, according to the legislation. The bank, Current, said some accounts had received stimulus payments as high as $9,800. One financial institution told CBS MoneyWatch it began receiving payments from the IRS for its customers starting around 11 a.m. The TurboTax spokesperson added, “If you haven’t filed your 2020 return yet, you can do that now to give your most recent information to the IRS, including bank account or address information to help ensure your stimulus check goes to the right place.” “The IRS will determine eligibility based on your last tax return (either 2019 or 2020) and will likely send your payment to the bank account where your tax refund was deposited.” “You don’t need to do anything to get your stimulus check,” a TurboTax spokesperson told CBS MoneyWatch in an email. That’s because the IRS prioritizes getting the stimulus money out quickly to those it knows it can reach - and it’s a massive effort, given that the tax agency has $422 billion in funds to distribute to more than 100 million taxpayers.Ībout 100 million checks will be issued over the next 10 days, according to IRS and Treasury officials on a Monday conference call. It’s most likely that people who have filed their 2020 or 2019 tax returns and have a bank account on file with the tax agency will quickly receive their stimulus checks through direct deposit, based on the prior payment rollouts. For instance, some people who didn’t have a bank account on file with the IRS during the previous two rounds of checks had to wait several weeks for debit cards or paper checks to reach their homes. It’s also likely that some of the issues that stymied delivery for some people in the previous two rounds of stimulus could cause a repeat situation the third time. But while some households will see the funds as early as this week, others may be in for a longer wait.Ībout 85% of people will receive one of the $1,400 checks, Mr. The third stimulus check is already hitting some bank accounts, just days after President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Act into law. |
